Washington got two dominant pitching performances in St. Louis, from Anibal Sanchez in Game 1 and Max Scherzer in Game 2. The Cardinals managed only four hits in the first two games and none in the first six innings of either contest.

The Nationals have never been to the World Series, while the Cardinals made their last trip in 2013.

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg (18-6, 3.32 ERA) gets the start Monday for the Nationals. The 31-year-old has made four appearances in the 2019 postseason, giving up four earned runs with 21 strikeouts in 15 innings. He picked up the win in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers and got a no-decision in the decisive Game 5.

The Cardinals counter with their young ace Jack Flaherty (11-8, 2.75 ERA). The 23-year-old was untouchable in the second half, posting a 0.91 ERA in 15 starts. Flaherty has made two starts in the postseason, giving up four earned runs in 13 innings. He took the loss in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Braves, but got the win in Game 5.
